It is a typical celebration of the Shuar indigenous community that symbolizes gratitude to nature for the abundance received. A praise ritual is performed for the harvest and at the same time the people of the community and their visitors form a party scene with dances, festivities, songs and gastronomic tastings in the middle of the Amazonian nature.

All about the La Chonta de la Amazonía.

In the Ecuadorian Amazon, the Shuar people have a particular celebration known as the Fiesta de la Chonta, which is a ritual of gratitude to the Pacha Mama for the annual production of awi or chonta.

Every April 21 the community gathers for this celebration. First they perform a ritual of purification of body and spirit through a drink known as guayusa, after this ritual they begin to make chicha based on chonta.

Every year the Shuar people hold the so-called chonta festival in gratitude to the Pacha Mama for the production of uwi or chonta.

This festival is popular in the Ecuadorian Amazon, mainly in Sucua – Morona Santiago.

A purification ritual is done with a traditional drink, and then the traditional chonta girl is made.
